FAQs on Qurbani

What exactly is Qurbani?

Qurbani entails the sacrificial offering of a livestock animal, a practice that traces back to the traditions of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. during Eidul-Adha. This ritual has its roots in the story of Prophet Ibrahim a.s., symbolizing his profound willingness to sacrifice. Additionally, Qurbani encourages acts of charity and solidarity, with a customary division of the sacrificed meat: one-third for charity, one-third for relatives and friends, and one-third for oneself.

How can one fulfill the obligation of Qurbani?

If performing the sacrifice personally is not feasible, one can opt to contribute to reputable charities that carry out Qurbani on their behalf. Prices for Qurbani may vary based on the location of the sacrifice, but the purpose remains consistent. While it's preferred to conduct the sacrifice in one's residing country, scholars permit selecting a country with greater poverty and need.

Who is obligated to perform Qurbani?

Qurbani is incumbent upon every mentally sound and financially capable Muslim. Offering a sheep or goat, or a share in a cow or camel, as practiced in the time of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w., suffices for oneself and their household.

When is the appropriate time for Qurbani?

The sacrifice must occur between Eid prayer on the 10th and sunset on the 13th of Dhul Hijjah, an Islamic month. For those donating to charities for the sacrifice, early donations before Eid are advisable.

An essential reminder for those intending to perform the sacrifice: once Dhul-Hijjah commences, it's recommended to refrain from cutting hair or nails until after the sacrifice, following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. This practice aligns with the rituals observed by Hajj pilgrims, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the act.

OUR SERVICES

Qurban, the Islamic Tradition that Feeds Those in Need

“That they may witness benefits for themselves and mention the name of Allah on known days over what He has provided for them of cattle. So eat of them and feed the poor.”
– The Holy Qur’an, 22:28

The first ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah are among the holiest days of the year, beloved by Allah (SWT). During this blessed period, your generosity can bring immense rewards and provide much-needed support to those in need.

Your donations hold great power. They not only fulfill the charitable duties prescribed by Allah (SWT) but also offer vital relief to families facing hardship, lightening their burdens even if just a little.

QURBAN REGISTRATION

Dear brothers & sisters, we are open for registration. By fulfilling your Qurbani obligation, you serve those most in need and unite the Ummah as you follow a commandment that is blessed by Allah (SWT). Please share around with your family & friends. Together we help each other with our Ibadah. Amin.

For interested parties you can make your Qurbani orders below.
During Eid-ul Adha, Muslims around the world commemorate and remember Prophet Ibrahim’s (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him) trials, by slaughtering an animal such as a sheep, goat, cow or camel.
The act of sacrificing animals for Allah’s sake symbolizes our willingness to give up things that are of benefit to us or close to our hearts, in order to follow Allah’s commands. It also symbolizes our willingness to give up some of our own bounties, in order to strengthen ties of friendship and help those who are in need.
It is very important to understand that the sacrifice itself, as practised by Muslims, has nothing to do with atoning for our sins or using the blood to wash ourselves from sin, as mentioned in the Quran:
“It is not their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah; it is your piety that reaches Him.” (Al-Hajj 22:37)

MESSAGE FROM
SHEIKH BURHAN MEHTAR

Sheikh Burhan Mehtar from the Ulama Council in Australia emphasizes the importance of performing Qurbani rites annually. Sheikh Burhan also serves as our compliance officer, overseeing Qurbani rites for our Singapore participants in Australia. The sheep, lamb, and cattle are slaughtered in Australia, with the meat airflown to Singapore for home delivery. Any excess meat donated by participants is distributed to the needy across Singapore.

On Eid and the Tashreeq days, Sheikh Burhan coordinates with the Australian Ulama to organize Qurbani activities in South Asian countries like India and Sri Lanka, and in Middle Eastern regions such as Jordan, Turkey, and refugee camps. Additionally, he collaborates with the Ulama of South Africa to conduct Qurbani activities in rural areas of South Africa, Malawi, Zambia, and beyond.

There is no reason to forgo Qurbani, as your good deed will have a far-reaching impact. "Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood, but what reaches Him is piety from you." (Al Qur'an, 22:37)
